introducing marcia
All aspects of my work—my blog, 'Fire Over Fifty,' my book, 'Zen (and Rage) and the Art of a Never-Ending Home Renovation,' and my latest venture, Creative Natives Landscape Design—reflect a profound personal evolution that I am eager to share with the world. From an early age, my father instilled in me the importance of taking responsibility, both through his words and his example. Over three decades in Corporate America, I experienced enough successes to grow and sustain a family and a home. More significant, though, were the humbling failures that forced me to adapt. Those lessons formed the scar tissue that gave me strength in the next major phase of my life: partnership with my sister to care for aging parents with dual dementia diagnoses, demanding five intense years of attention, patience, and flexibility. My sister and I grew closer than ever as we navigated endless challenges we knew were going to have just one outcome: death. I learned that when I fully embraced this hard fact, I lived in the moment, and the resulting peace was profound. Now, my focus is on helping others attain the same sense of peace, control, and empowerment that I have discovered along my path.
